ROMAN KEYCARD BLACKWOOD
Slam Bidding for the 21st Century
by Eddie Kantar

The publishers made some typos- and I was not entirely blameless either. What follows is a list of the errors and omissions that bothered me most, plus a few nitpicks. In addition, new ideas have been added. Hope you enjoy the book anyway. If you have comments, feel free to write to me at:  ekbridge@earthlink.net

ERRATA:

Page 4 -- Bottom: 4D '2', 4NT '3'

Page  5-- When Responder Asks for Keycards

#4  Making any jump bid at anytime.

Page 7 -- Top: The '1' after 1S belongs after 2H and 3H

Page 8 -- Opener's hearts: AK863

Page 9 -- Responder's diamonds: K52

Page 15-- The 5NT response to the queen-ask

#4  If the responder to RKB has opened 1NT or 2NT, he is allowed to consider any 3rd round control as a side suit extra.

Page 17--2nd paragraph  After a 5D '0' response to a 1430 ask, hearts agreed, there is no queen-ask! 5S is better used as a SSA. If all the asker needed was the HQ, why didn't he jump directly  to 5NT, the Grand Slam Force?

Page 21- Next to last paragraph:  There are 'two' responses to a forcing 5H queen-ask, hearts agreed, that show the queen.  They are numbers 2 and 3. The denial response is 6H.

Page 23- THE SECOND KING ASK

Holding the king (or a singleton, if possible) of the second king-ask suit, responder can:

1. Make a first step response to show Kxx(x).

2. Make a second step response to show Kx

3. Leap in the trump suit to show a singleton (with enough trump)

4. Raise the ask suit to show the KQ(x). (7NT may be possible)

Page 59 --  DO THE RIGHT THING!

Opener's last bid should be 6H. Opener cannot afford to make a SSA of 6D. Partner will bid 6S (1st step) with xx of diamonds.

Page 68 Top diagram. 6H is a SSA ask, not a king ask.

Page   79   Disregard  paragraph at bottom of page

Page 83-- EYE CATCHING   (2) should be (3) and all other numbers advanced one.

Page 85-- COMPLEX AUCTION  (8) having denied three spades with the 2D rebid.

Page 90 -- Bottom diagram:  4C  '2'

page 98--  Last sequence:  4NT (4) should be 4S (4)

Page 102 -- Responses to the 4H or 4S queen-ask

#2-- Bidding five of the agreed suit shows the queen, denies a side suit king, but shows a possible 3rd round extra.

#5-- Delete

Page 106-- 2nd line:  4NT is a 'spade'cuebid.

Page 113 (bottom and top of page 114). After four level forcing diamond agreement, 4H is RKB. A problem arises when hearts is a first bid suit. If it is, 4H is natural and 4S is RKB. If spades is also a first bid suit, 4NT is RKB. However, if 4H is the FOURTH bid made by the partner of the 4D bidder, hearts NEVER having been rebid or supported, 4H is RKB. It is inconceivable that 4H can be natural if a first bid heart suit has neither been rebid nor supported by that time. Give me a break.

Page 142 -- First diagram: #2 EKB - 4D would be RKB
